EMPATHY

PRAYER: Lord fix our hearts and make us more empathetic towards others. Help us to remember that you show us your empathy daily.

VERSE OF THE DAY: 1 Peter 3:8

Empathy….what is empathy? Empathy is being able to understand, associate, or experience someone’s thoughts, feelings, or emotions as if it were your own feelings. Empathy is important because it allows you to be open and sensitive to someone else’s needs or concerns. It allows you to draw closer to someone and connect in a deeper and more personable kind of way.

Sometimes all it takes is a hug, a rub on the back, the holding of a hand to let someone know that you understand their situation or circumstances. So often we think that we know people and we have yet to hear their story. Listening is one of the greatest skills to inquire when showing empathy. Being empathetic could change negative thoughts that people are thinking and turn them into positive thoughts. It could be better for ones own health and well being. It gives you an opportunity to love on your brother and sister in Christ, just the way He does with you. I encourage you today to show a little empathy. Be kind and courteous even when you don’t feel like it. Truly try to understand and relate to others in an empathetic way. You never know whose life you may impact!
