PRAYER: Lord who are we that you are mindful of us? You hear us when we call You and we thank you for thinking of us when others don’t. For You know us by our name and You call us friend.

VERSE OF THE DAY: John 15:15, Psalm 8:3-4

IMG_3450I was often raised, if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say it at all. There will be moments when you are good to others and they are not so good to you. It will put you in a place where you simply do not have any nice words to say. Growing up with such a big heart my mother would cringe whenever someone would pick on me and I didn’t defend myself. She would always mention I needed a backbone and I needed to stick up for myself more. As I became older I heard the same voice saying the same thing when people were not so kind to me. I of course heed to her instructions. I wouldn’t say I have too many who feel the need to take me through the ringer but I was able to gain a level of discernment of those who were for me and those who were against me.

IMG_3452What I will say is that you have to be able to have the spirit of discernment. You have to learn people’s motives and who and what they really are when concerning you. You don’t have to settle for second best friends when you have first class authentic friendships. If nothing else you have a friend in Jesus. Knowing your worth and value doesn’t just apply to coupled relationships. Knowing your value and your worth means knowing who you are in this life and what you bring to the table in any friendship or relationship. You are not anyone’s arch enemy so you shouldn’t be treated as so. If people around you make you feel like this. Cut them lose because you alone matter more to yourself and to God than anything, making your relationship with Jesus intimate and special.

People may make your heart feel sad, disappointed, angry, or frustrated but ask yourself is that person worth my mental health, a broken heart, hurt or disappointed feelings? Are they worth how I feel on the inside? So the next time your so called girlfriends come together and make you feel like you don’t belong or that you are not equivalent in beauty or the next time your boys come around and make you feel like your not worth being in there circle of friends or like you need some type of validation from them, remember that walking alone is fine until you meet your real friends. Friends who will never make you feel less of a person and friends who truly do care about you as a person. Be encouraged today knowing that God is always with you, He knows your name, and He calls you friend.
